And so much more!
How long is this training?
Sky Yoga Teacher Training is 200 hours as per the guidelines of Yoga Alliance. Yoga Alliance requests that the majority of these hours are “contact hours”, meaning the students are with a teacher in person for the majority of the training. The remaining hours are self led study such as yoga practice outside of class time or required reading or written assignments. There will be specific homework assignments given daily and/or weekly.
I haven’t been practicing yoga for very long but still want to take this training. Can I?
You sure can! It is preferable that you have had a consistent practice for at least 6 months. You do need a basic understanding of the yoga postures and need to be physically healthy. But just as important is a GENUINE interest in learning more about yoga, the enthusiasm to be fully immersed in the program and the willingness to commit 100% to the path you will embark upon (that last bit is the most important – ONE HUNDRED PERCENT COMMITMENT is a prerequisite).
How many students do you accept?
There will never be more than 12 students in any session of SKY Yoga Teacher Training, allowing for a safe and intimate space to get to know your true self, be a strong support to one another, as well as allow lots of time to practice teach and get feedback.
How do you test the students? Are there written exams?
There are no written exams. I believe the best way to become a great teacher is experientially – through physical practice, observation, thinking, discussing and connection. To me, yoga is about true connection to yourself and connecting to those you are teaching, and this is best learned by doing exactly that.
As a way of reviewing your ability to teach, trainees will prepare to teach a 60 minute class to their peers on which they will be given feedback. If there is any doubt of the student’s readiness to lead the group through a safe and mindful practice, the opportunity for mentoring beyond the 200 hour program will be discussed.
I will have to miss three days of training because of a wedding/trip/university exam/dentist appointments. Is that ok?
Unfortunately, no. Students need to attend and participate in all 200 hours of the training (including homework) in order to graduate. Please be certain that there are no life events to get in the way of this. Because of the nature of the program, there is no way to make up any missed hours. I cannot emphasize this enough. You are making a commitment to your SELF and in order to get the most out of this program, you must show up in all ways (physically, emotionally, mentally).
Can I teach as soon as I am done the course? What kind of yoga will I be able to teach?
The intention is for the student to be prepared to teach a safe and effective, 60 minute class once the course is completed.
Understanding that “style” of yoga is so open to interpretation, the training is based on hatha yoga with a solid introduction to vinyasa. Students will have the option to teach in either style for their practicum.
We will be learning a number of poses with variations on most (where it makes sense). I teach from a place of “start with the foundation and build from there”, so that the student may take this knowledge and apply it to any pose as they move forward and grow in their personal practice and teaching career.

Please bring your mat, a blanket, required reading, lots of pens and a notebook. SKY YTT provides blocks, bolsters and straps. Have snacks and a water bottle to keep you fuelled. Lunch will be 30 to 45 minutes depending on the day, so please pack a lunch as there will not be time to go get one.
I have heard Yoga Teacher Training can be intense. How do I prepare for this?
SKY Yoga Teacher Training asks us to answer some tough questions about ourself and that is not always a comfortable experience. However, the personal growth that takes place as a result is AMAZING – I find it incredibly freeing to come out on the other side of that discomfort. There is no real way to prepare for this experience other than being excited about and open minded to the process.
